Detroit starts a road trip out West, where before long Seattle won’t be part of a road trip out West. After trying to turn Detroit into the Suns last year, it’s good to see Flip Saunders is going back to basics with the Pistons leading the NBA in defense. Saunders has done another smart thing; he’s initiating the offense more through Tayshaun Prince giving him more chances and letting Chauncey Billups more freedom to roam into open areas. There, said my nice to things about Saunders, now can go back to ripping him later.
Seattle has yet to play a game as a favorite and they won’t here either. Depending on how the Sonics do against Utah Friday night, they could be chasing history with 0-7 start. (Oklahoma City, are you watching this!) Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo blames the start on the players settling for jump shots instead of attacking the rim. "We don't want to be a jump-shooting team. But saying you want an effective post-up game and you want people that can really attack the rim, and getting effective at it are two different things." Let me get this straight P.J., you’re the coach, there the players, who is in charge. The Sonics aren’t playing much defense either, allowing almost 110 points a game. Seattle‘s Best (the coffee, not the team) is 12-27 ATS when they allow 105 or more points in a game.
Pistons hit on all cylinder and cruise thru Seattle.
